"I am sad to inform you of the passing of My husband John Fowler. He passed away  at 4:57pm the 12th of June, 2001.
He put up a long battle with much distress  of the cancer taking over in his body and He was in such a weakened condition he picked up every germ that  was in the hospitals."

John had open heart surgery in 1991 and had three defective valves at time of death, which he was too weak to surgically repair.

My father Mitchell Zdeb who served in The 94th Division passed away  August 9th 1987.  He resided in Chicago,Illinois until the time of his passing.

My father Mithchell Zdeb served with the 94th infantry division. He was a Staff Sgt. He  received the Purple heart/ Oak leaf cluster and other medals.

He married my mom Joann, in 1951 and had us 3 boys. Carl, Joe and Ken.  We would love going to the 94ths' Christmas parties in Chicago where we lived and the annual picnics. I remember a veteran named Pat Malone, and a veteran named Dale. do not remember his last name, but lived here in Illinois and saw him on a PBS  television special about veterans. Unfortunately my father has passed in 1987, at the Hines veterans hospital.  Is there a directory of 94th members in Illinois available?

My email address is wolfbv@yahoo.com and my father, Frankie Mullin passed away yesterday and he was in the 94th Infrantry Division, 1st Lieutenaunt, during World War II. Is there a site I can email Dad's death notice to or a list of his old buddies that are still liviing? Dad would never talk about death or dying because I felt he seen to much of it in the war so therefore I do not have a list of those people but he went to the reunion for years and I know he would like them notified. I know in the last few years alot of his buddies have passed on but feel it very important if any of them are alive that they receive notice that Dad has passed away. Thank-you.

Subject: Fred S. Della-Rose

Fred was the youngest of three brothers.  His next-older brother, Eugene (my father), passed away only two months prior.  They are survived by the oldest brother, Frank.  All three served in WWII, and miraculously, all three survived.  They all have lived wonderful, full lives since the war--Fred became an upper-level manager at U.S. Steel, my Dad was a technical writer at Bell Helicopter, and Frank a geologist at Shell Oil Corp.

As brothers, Fred and Dad were especially close.  When the war came, dad told me that he and Fred sat and listened to the radio broadcasts after Pearl Harbor was bombed.  During WWII, dad served in the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific, and Fred served in the 94th Inf.  I'm told that, when Fred departed for the Army, his English-born mother stood stiff-lipped, gave Fred a firm handshake, and wished her son good luck.

Fred served in the Siegfried Line and in the Battle of the Bulge, and shared many of his unimaginable experiences with my dad when they returned home.  Dad then passed on many of those stories to me as I grew up.

I had the joy of visiting Fred and his family this last summer in Michigan.  I didn't know it would be the last time I'd see him.  After dad passed away, one of the last things Fred said to me was: "Devin, now that your father is gone, I'll be your dad...".

I miss dad and uncle Fred more than words can say, and the best I can hope for is to live the rest of my life with the same honor, integrity, and sense of family that inspired them.

Dear sir: 1 Feb 01
It is with extreme sadness that I report the death of my twin brother, Theodore R. (Ted) Babcock. We both served together in the I & R Platoon of HQ 302 throughout WW II.

Ted was 75 years old when he died on 12 january 2001. He would have been 76 on our birthday, 31 january 2001. After our discharge in march, 1946, we Both received BS in EE degrees from the un of Iowa in February, 1950 and both Then went to work as electronic engineers at bell aircraft in Niagara Falls, NY. I stayed there for my entire career but ted moved on to other jobs in the Roanoke, VA area. Where he died and is buried.

Ted was very proud to have served his country in the 94th Inf Div. We Remained together in the I & R Platoon throughout the complete ETO campaign Except when one of us was injured and in the hospital which happened to each of us.
We were very close and I will sorely miss him.
Sincerely,
Lawrence (Larry) F Babcock (Pvt)

Subject: Robert Justin Cook

Gentlemen,
It is with great sadness that I inform your great association of the
passing of Robert Justin Cook who was a Staff Sergeant with B Co, 301st Inf, 94th ID.  I am attaching an obituary that I wrote in hopes that you will include it into your TAPS web page.  Bob Cook was loving, caring family man with a wonderful sense of humor.  I consider myself very fortunate to have known him.  He was my father-in-law.  I was also fortunate, being a veteran (retired Army sergeant major), that he would talk to me about your war.  My "war" came much later -- in Vietnam.  I was also involved in operations in Grenada, Panama, Desert Storm and Somalia -- all of which pale in the face of the sacrifices that you and your comrades endured for the cause of Freedom in World War II.  I am retired from the Army, but now work as a senior civil servant with US Special Operations Command in Stuttgart, Germany.  I had wanted to come to Germany during my active duty career, but they kept sending me to the Far East.

My wife and I recently went up to the area of operations of the 94th
during the battle of the bulge.  Bob Cook was wounded twice in that
area.  My wife and I stayed at an old former hunting lodge near the
Saarschleife (crook of the Saar river) in Ortsholz.  Our visit was dual
purposed -- to see the area where Bob was wounded (Nohn) and visit, in the same area (Wasserlich and Greimerath), the area where my family emigrated to America from 150 years ago.  It was quite a moving experience.  It also raises the hair on the back of my neck when I look at the area and think of what the 94th was sitting on top of -- the Nazi marshalling and launching point for the Battle of the Bulge -- the last gasp of the Nazi empire.  Terrible times, but the beginning of the end of a horrible evil inflicted upon the Earth.  One can not express enough to even begin to provide the appreciation for what you endured for those of us who came afterwards.

With Greatest Respect and Admiration,
Sincerely,

Peter R. Leinenweber

Obituary
Robert Justin Cook

Robert Justin Cook passed away early Saturday, January 13, 2001 at the age of 78.   He was born September 6, 1922 in Palestine, Illinois.

Robert j. cook was a 1940 graduate of Bloomington high school where he met his lovely wife of  just under 58 years, Joann Wagner.

He was drafted into the army in 1942 and served in the European campaign with b company, 301st infantry regiment, 94th infantry division.  Staff sergeant cook was wounded near Coln, Germany near the Luxembourg border –  an area that served as a major marshaling and deployment area for the Nazi's desperate last push in the battle of the bulge.  His awards included the combat infantry badge, the bronze star and the purple heart (second award).  He was a member of the order of the purple heart.

After the war, Robert J. Cook graduated from Indiana university, where he was a 4 year "I"-man and served as captain of the IU golf team.  His golfing acclaim continued as he won the bloomington city golf tournament an unprecedented 5 times.  He was selected to the bloomington golf hall of fame.

Mr. cook worked for several years as a salesman for H. J. Just a note to inform you that my uncle, S.Sgt Eugene Thomas Hack 32659471, HQ Company, 3rd Battalion, 302nd Infantry passed away this morning (6 December 2000).  Arrangements are incomplete at present, but it looks as if the wake will be Saturday and Sunday evenings at the Oelker & Cox Funeral Home in Mount Kisco, NY, with the funeral on Monday morning.

If you would be so kind as to pass the word, I should be able to provide details in the near future.  Also, I trust you will add his name to the TAPS list.  He loved the 94th (as you no doubt know) and was very proud of his service in the Division.

Thank you,
