1st Lt. Chas P. Macke in his Jeep Dear Sir
My Dad, Charles P. Macke was in the 94th Inf. Div. company L.  Unfortunately my Dad was killed in a car accident May 1st 1954, 6 months before I was born.

Recently I found a newspaper article amongst my Mom's effects about my Dad.  I will forward this to you along with some pictures.  My Dad, according to this newspaper article was recommended for the Silver Star by Lt. Col. Benjamin E. Thurston.  My Dad never received the Silver Star.  I would like to see if there is anyway I could get this for him posthumously.  I have written the Army twice and also our two Senators from my Dad's home state of Iowa, Harkin and Grassley.

I haven't received a reply.  Could you recommend better or more proper channels for me to approach this?
Or perhaps this is an improbable dream.   I would love some advice about this if possible.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely

Carolyn Shaw

Sir,
I hope you don't mind me taking the liberty of contacting you. I am an ex-British Royal Marine and have just returned from a holiday in Saarburg, Germany. While travelling to Luxembourg on my own last week from Saarburg I came across a peace monument on top of a ridgeline close to the Lux border. On closer inspection I found it was a monument dedicated to the 94th Infanrty Division and to their exploits in the region during the bitter winter of '44/45. There was also a memorial to some members of "M" Company (I think), who lost their lives in that area. Being from a military background and looking out over the surrounding ridgelines and valleys one could only imagine the difficulty of fighting in that open area, having fought in the South Atlantic (Falklands) in 1982 I could however imagine the problems experienced from the weather. I thought you would like to know the memorial is in pristine condition and in a very peaceful setting. I paid my respects and left.

Best Wishes,
Ian (Johno) Johnson.
Ex Sgt.
Royal Marines.

Hi,
My father served in World War II - 94th Infantry - 302 Infantry Regiment - Company "M".  His name is Manuel Brittain and I  know he was in Rhineland and Central Europe.  He is still with us and would love to make contact with anyone who was in his Regiment. If any one out there remembers my dad, please contact me and I will gladly give you his telephone Number.

Thank you,

Sherri Brittain Smith
